This is so true. Some people in the business you work with are no help at all! Brings back memories of my last job in security documents printing. We were printing bank checks with a "VOID" background that is supposed to 'appear' when copied. This was a very simple process where a light background tint is printed at a high halftone frequency (150-175lpi), with the "VOID" text printed at a low frequency (85-95lpi), but at a matching density, so that it blends into the background. Typically, a copier will not pick up the high frequency halftone background, leaving just the "VOID" text to be seen.
These types of jobs would require a bit of "tuning" when the client requested a different background ink color and/or tint. My supervisor, with 40+ years of experience, never really understood this process and would come back saying, "It just don't (sic) work." I'd ask, "Is the background tint too heavy/light? Is the VOID text at too dark/light or at low/high LPI?" His response again was, "It just don't work." GAAAAA! I'd have to get the job myself to inspect it, so I wouldn't be working blind.
You feel all alone in dealing with certain issues and those who "more experience" are looking at you to solve it. After 20 years in newspaper printing and 3 years in security documents printing, I got out. :-) MAJ
