I meant Errol and Jan about 10 years ago in a small town in michigan. It was near a lake that Jan's mother lived, but they always stayed in their GMC motor home, which was set up to store his prints andso he could do his watercolors. My husband became very interested and love his watercolors and he was doing a watercolor for us when hepassed. It is a great loss of a great artist. At least we have many of his watercolors to enjoy. His vision for painting various things was very unique and colorfull and beautiful.
I had no knowledge Errol passed until I randomly searched for him tonight. I was an art apprentice for Errol in the late 90s. His passion for art a s design lives with me today.
I too, had no knowledge of Errol's illness or of his death until today. I am shocked and saddened at the loss of such an artist. A facebook message from him in April 2010 gave no mention of his illness, and at that time he was planning a show in Point Roberts here on the west coast in June. I knew Errol during 1984 as a sign/graphics newby. My employer at the time had known Errol for several years and we were given Errol's fish graphic contract. This was Errol's summer of the glorious parrot and fish watercolours in the old black warehouse he had rented near the Burrard bridge. I was in such awe of his talent and passion. It was also the summer of his decapitated black Cadillac (Errol thought it should be a convertable so he sawed the roof off the old 1970 and supported the wonky bits with 2 X 4's on the inside rim. It was painted 'a la Etienne' as a red, white and blue eagle. Our trio had a riot touring the town daily...'for lunch'. This artistic gem was eventually confiscated by the US highway patrol as 'an insult to America' during a 4th of July stateside escapade..in Errol's style only. Rest in peace my dear man. Have thought of you many times over the years.
